Two Locals Named Holt International Award Winners

Holt International has named Minalee Saks of Birth To Three and Lory Britain of Relief Nursery as the 2009 Bertha Holt Award winners.

Saks is the founder and executive director of Birth To Three. She wrote and adapted Birth To Three’s parenting education curriculum and traveled to Romania and Ukraine to train staff to work with parents to prevent abandonment and child abuse. More than 10,000 children have been helped in Romania and the curriculum is the standard of practice for parent education in five regions of Ukraine. Britain is the director of national replication for Relief Nursery. She traveled to the Ukraine to train more than 70 child welfare workers in ways to prevent abuse, neglect and abandonment in their country.

 The Bertha Holt Award honors those who have selflessly and with loving care and concern given themselves in personal service to help homeless children of the world.
